The Burren and Cliffs of Moher UNESCO Global Geopark:
Sea View House is an Official Tourism Partner of the Burren and Cliffs of Moher UNESCO Global Geopark.
Geoparks are regions with outstanding natural and cultural heritage where people and organisations work together to ensure a cared-for landscape, better understood heritage, well-managed tourism and vibrant communities.
Visitors to the Geopark can learn how the unique Burren limestone was formed over 300 million years ago and about the influence it has had on farming and local life.
The Burren and Cliffs of Moher UNESCO Global Geopark is also home to 7 Wild Atlantic Way Discovery Points, 11 Geosites (sites of geological importance), a distinctive national park, numerous walking and cycling trails as well as an award-winning food trail.
Visitors are requested to ‘Leave No Trace’ of their visit to the Burren, in order to conserve this treasured landscape.
Geopark Sustainable Code of Practice for Tourism Accommodation.
The tourism provider must have strong understanding of the unique character of the Geopark Region and enables its staff to provide relevant and accurate interpretive information to visitors on the natural and cultural heritage of the region.
Actively communicate and promote the Geopark Leave No Trace principles and observe the Geopark Leave No Trace principles at all times.
Demonstrate current and ongoing contribution towards the conservation of the Geopark region.
Develop a formal Environmental Policy which is communicated to staff and visitors/ customers/clients. This is supported by an Environmental Action Plan, which includes targets for improvement that are reviewed annually. This includes an awareness of climate change issues and how they can be off-set with appropriate Environmental policy and actions.
Have an effective system for monitoring its energy consumption, water consumption and sets targets for improvement as part of it Environmental Action Plan.
Have an effective system for managing and maintaining its waste water adequately and has a documented management/ maintenance schedule as part of its Environmental Action Plan.
Have a system for managing its waste and sets targets for its reduction, reuse and recycling as part of its Environmental Action Plan.
Actively encourages sustainable transport to visitors and provides detailed and relevant information to visitors before and during their visit.
Have a Green Purchasing Policy that aims to increase the amount of locally-sourced, fair-trade, recycled and eco-friendly products purchased annually.
